Currently, everyone is talking about Threads, Meta’s new Twitter competitor.
The Instagram-related app was released in more than 100 countries, and within seven hours, the platform had 10 million signups, according to co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
If you are here so you’ve begun using Threads but find it lacking, you’ll be disappointed to learn that, for the time being at least (Meta is allegedly “looking into it”), and you decided to delete your Threads account but you can’t deactivate your Threads account without simultaneously deleting your Instagram account.
That’s how dependent Instagram Meta’s new social media platform is. You get a text-based feed that isn’t necessarily worse than Twitter’s, and it’s simple to establish and get a following on.
However, it is still a Meta corporation, with all the associated privacy invasion practices and existential angst.
But as mentioned, there’s a catch: if you want to delete your Threads account, you must deactivate the related Instagram profile.
Meta’s Additional Privacy Policy states, “You can deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account.”
Meta says the regulation is in place since Threads is an extension of a user’s Instagram account and vice versa.
Although the app is independent of Instagram, the regulation caught many users off guard.
From Mosseri’s statement, the firm is thinking of a means for you to achieve that in the future. However, Mosseri still needs to provide a date when we may expect to see the functionality.
However, Mosseri points out that if you deactivate your Threads account, your profile and any stuff you’ve posted here will be completely removed.
When you’re ready to delete your Instagram account, join the club
But by the way, if you are serious in you decide and want to delete your threads account, follow the steps below:
- Firstly, select the “Profile” menu,
- Secondly, go to “Settings” (the cog symbol),
- Thirdly tap on “Account,” and that click on “Deactivate profile,”
- Finally, “Deactivate Threads profile”!
Pay attention to that. However, Instagram’s help center states that deactivating your Threads profile is temporary since access to your profile, threads, responses, and likes will be restored upon your next login.
Mosseri adds that users can also private their whole accounts or remove certain postings.

Make your profile private
Taking your profile private is ideal if you don’t want to delete your public postings manually but still want to remove them.
There, you’ll have the option of removing all of your followers or keeping just your closest pals.
You can do this by:
- Select Menu > Privacy > Private Profile and then tap the OK button inside the profile.

In an apparent rush to cash in on Twitter’s mayhem, the app lacks key features like direct messages (DMs), a following feed, and even hashtags.
